4 questions we can discuss on class
After talking with Pr Han, I think it's necessary to propose the questions which seem important and difficult to answer, at least to me.
1. What's the difference between theory [of course, social thoery] and religion?
As I said in the class, without any explanation and evidence to show the possibility, only describing the bright future, it reminded me of the style of religions: Yeah, we can definitely achieve a whole new world like the bible [or sth like that] has told us. That all depends on our actions...[e.g calling in Max Weber's analysis to Genevan]
But, can we accept\interpret or study a thoery in this way still?

2. What's the difference between theory and social plan?
I insisted that we need more "hard evidences", while talking about Harbermas' theory which argued it can help us to face another Great Transformation [differing from K.Polanyi's] in process, only because, in my eyes, he turned the theory to be a kind of practical social plan, without giving feasibility consideration. Yes, I adimit that an abstract theory has no need to think about the reality restriction, pecfection in form is the biggest goal of it. But, almost all the social theories aim to not only explain, but also change our world. Can they avoid or ignore the reality always?

3. What's the standard we can take to judge of an ideology, True/False, or Good/Bad ?
This is a divarication we met during the conversation between Pr Han and I. In my eyes, ideology cannot be judged by true or false, as the theoretical part of it is often much beyond empirical level, like an old chinese saying argued:信则有,不信则无. But we can say it's good or bad, of course, 1) different persons, different answers; 2) according to their own practice and experience.

4. What should we do before considering present China [even East Asia] Harbermas-ically?
We have spent 4 classes [or even more, I cannot remember clearly ^^] to discuss Harbermas' or Giddens' solutions to the coming future, which seems difficult to understand. Maybe it's necessary to think about what would happen if we apply them to China without deep reflection-----not only to them, but to ourselves.
So far as I know, 2 dangers below:
1) there are so many great thinkers sharing the same destiny: from a charming christ to a real christ cannot be doubted;
2) Some social or cultural context has been omitted by theorists, as it goes without saying; but it would probably be "said" in another culture or society. It's our responsibility to find it back, not Harbermas'.

Well, that's all.
Too late now...
