Jean-François Leguil-Bayart was Director of CERI from 1994 to 2000 and Director of Critique internationale from 1998 to 2003. A specialist in comparative politics, he has conducted research on the historical sociology of the state, with particular reference to sub-Saharan Africa, but also to Turkey and Iran, and on political imaginaires. He is also interested in French foreign policy, with particular reference to Africa. Since 1981, he has been editorial advisor of African Affairs. He co-founded the journal Politique africaine, which he edited from 1980 to 1982. Since 1990, he has been permanent advisor to the Centre d'analyse et de prévision of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He lectures at the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris and contributes regularly to the French media, particularly France Culture, Le Monde, Libération, La Croix, Le Figaro, Alternatives économiques and Croissance. Since 2002, he has been the Governor of the European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam). He has been the President of the Fonds d’analyse des sociétés politiques (FASOPO) since 2003.
